I AM HERE, a multimedia series by Caro LaFlamme and Kira Koop, challenges the disparity between physical and intellectual space allotted to men and womyn in public spaces. The photographic series shares the stories of four consenting participants posing in locations where they were harassed. White capes draped over their shoulders bear two separate but connected statements: I AM HERE and (I AM NOT FOR YOU), challenging the viewer’s gaze.
Koop’s photographic quartet DEMAND/DECLARE documents locations of events and interactions where Koop was denied full personhood. The series mixes interior and exterior spaces, exploring both the public and the private. SEE ME becomes a mantra, repeated as a plea and a command.

German artist Limpe Fuchs broke early from her classical training to experiment with “no formalism”-improvisational sound and visual performance using handmade instruments and sound sculptures. Her fascinating artistic career spans over forty years of pushing musical and performance boundaries with an open and intuitive approach. For this event, Fuchs will present some of her handmade instruments and discuss the ideas and concepts behind her often whimsical and rousing work.
