archiving the artist: strategies for personal archival management | Emily Doucet | 7-9pm Thursday 25th July | free to ace & aci members | $20 for non-members

This workshop will focus on providing basic practical advice for artists and cultural workers interested in developing and maintaining their digital and physical personal archives. Maintaining an organized and complete archive is an important step towards increasing capacity for grant writing, applications for exhibitions and other professional and creative endeavors. In an increasingly digital world, these archives can take many forms, be it physical documents, blogs, and multi-media websites, among other forms. While the workshop will not significantly engage with conservation issues or website design, the practical and conceptual justification for archival awareness in the creative industries will be highlighted.

Many artists and individuals could benefit from increased knowledge of archives and recordkeeping, however newcomer artists and/or those unfamiliar with the Winnipeg and Manitoba art scene may find this workshop particularly beneficial.

The workshop will be facilitated by Emily Doucet, a cultural worker and writer with a BA Honours degree in Art History from the University of Winnipeg, who has experience working and engaging with archives and libraries in various art galleries and artist-run centers as well as a sustained critical interest in the preservation and presentation of artists collections and archives.
